Fake Bima Lokpal Calls? Here’s How to Get Your Money Back Legally

In recent years, thousands of innocent policyholders across India have become victims of fraudsters posing as “Bima Lokpal” officials. These scam calls are part of a widespread insurance refund fraud, where callers falsely promise refunds, bonuses, or compensation related to existing or closed insurance policies. In reality, there is no such scheme, and the victims are tricked into buying new policies or paying illegal “GST”, “NOC”, or “file charges”. If you or someone you know has been targeted by such fraud, you can fight back legally—and get your money back. 🔍 How the Fake Bima Lokpal Scam Works You receive a call from someone claiming to be from Bima Lokpal, IRDAI, or an insurance company. They say you’re entitled to a refund, bonus, or maturity benefit on an old policy. To release the funds, they ask you to: Buy a new insurance policy, Pay a fee (GST, No Objection Certificate, etc.), Provide personal and banking information. After payment or policy issuance, they vanish. No refund ever comes. 🛡️ Legal Remedies to Recover Your Money If you've been duped in this scam, here are the steps you can take: ✅ 1. Draft a Legal Complaint Immediately Address it to the concerned insurance company (whose policy was issued). Mention the entire fraud chain, including names, contact numbers, emails, and dates. Demand policy cancellation, refund, and investigation into the broker/agent involved. ✅ 2. File a Complaint with IRDAI Visit www.irdai.gov.in or call Toll-Free 155255 /…

Will Registration vs. Intestate Succession for NRIs: What You Must Know

[et_pb_section][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text] By B S Makar, AdvocateFounder – B S Makar Advocates and Solicitors📍 House No. 669, Sector 64, Mohali, Punjab – 160062📞 +91-9878131111 | 🌐 makarlaws.com🔖 Specialist in NRI Property Disputes | Estate Planning | Succession & Civil Litigation When it comes to inheriting property in India, the process is rarely smooth—especially for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). Whether you're an NRI who owns property in India or are expecting to inherit ancestral assets, one thing is certain: planning ahead is essential. Unfortunately, many families face legal chaos and emotional strain because their loved ones didn’t leave behind a clear Will. In this blog, we’ll break down the difference between Will registration and intestate succession, and why getting this right is crucial for NRIs. Why NRIs Should Care About Succession Planning Imagine this: your hard-earned property in India ends up in the wrong hands—or worse, stuck in court for years—just because there was no proper Will in place. This is not uncommon. Many NRIs delay or ignore succession planning, assuming everything will "just work out." But Indian inheritance laws don’t always align with family expectations. What Exactly Is a Will and Why Should NRIs Make One? A Will is a legal document stating how your assets should be distributed after your death. While Indian law doesn't mandate registration of Wills, a registered Will holds far greater evidentiary value in court. If you're living abroad, you can still make a Will outside India—but if it involves Indian property, it must comply with Indian succession laws. We always recommend registering the Will at the Sub-Registrar’s Office and including a doctor’s certificate of mental soundness—especially for elderly individuals.…
